It's my favourite time of year! Isn't it just so magical? The cuddling, the fires, the music, the lights, the trees, the decorations, the family time. I get little goosebumps just thinking about it all!

TWO OF THE BEST HOLIDAY ADS THIS YEAR

Who doesn't love watching holiday ads this time of year? I love it! The holiday ads are so on par. Here's two of the best holiday ads so far for 2016. 

I love the first one because of the awesome super hero Mrs. Clause who gets things done and saves the day for Santa. I love that the little boy writes a letter to her instead of Santa about his sister's gift. This one I was definitely tearing up at the end of! I dunno what it is about this time of year that gives me all the feels, but I truly love love love it! Christmas for the win!

 COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS - THE BEST GIFT OF ALL

The second one, come on? Two teddy bears, as old people, travelling through an airport. For the holidays. AND those camera angels! Also is it me or do airlines usually put out the best holiday ads EVER? Oh man tissue box please.

These ads make me want to make a beautiful ad for Hattitude jewellery this year. Since my jewellery is all one-of-a-kind made from recycled vintage pieces (old brooches, scarf clips, buttons and other oddities) they're all eco friendly and unique. Every customer always gets so many compliments on the jewellery whenever they wear them. What would I do for my video ad? Want to see a throw back to one I did a million years ago? SO fun to see how I've grown (even my website is a different website!) over the years.

A LITTLE BOY LOST HIS LIFE, HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW October 18 2016

MY FRIEND JILL TRAGICALLY LOST HER 2 YEAR OLD SON THIS YEAR 

A little boy, named Jude lost his life. Here's what you need to know about this tragedy and how we can help. He tragically died in his sleep from the Influenza B virus, also known as the flu virus. So Jill and her family started a campaign and website saying "Lets Talk about the Flu" and it's going viral. It's tackling a tough issue in a day and age where there are many anti vaccine people and when our herd immunity has begun to be lost. You can read below her excerpt on what she is sharing on social media as well as links to her website for more information about the flu and flu shots.

HERD IMMUNITY IS THE GENERAL IMMUNITY TO A PATHOGEN,

Herd immunity is the general immunity to a pathogen (like the flu virus) in a population based on the acquired immunity to it by a high proportion of members over time. Meaning when people stop getting the flu shot our herd immunity goes out the window and for people who are pregnant, who have low immune system, have had organ transplants, people who have cancer, the elderly and the young, people who depend almost entirely on the herd system we are the ones who suffer the most. Some of us even lose our lives. 

JUDE LOVED SUPERMAN, LIONS, PENGUINS, MICKEY MOUSE...

Jude loved Superman, lions, penguins, Mickey Mouse, peanut butter sandwiches, their dog (Guinness), trucks, and stories. He was head over heels for his family and excited for absolutely everything. He ran, rather than walked, everywhere with purpose and enthusiasm, and he gave the best hugs.

ON MAY 6TH, 2016 JUDE DIED SUDDENLY DURING HIS AFTERNOON NAP.

No one could explain it. On August 24th, we finally had our answer. Jude died from influenza B, and with that conclusive answer, it is now believed that Isla and Thomas also had the flu that week, and we can trace it back to 'a nasty bug' going through a kindergarten classroom.

Because this would be my first question, yes. They were all vaccinated. But as we know, the flu shot is an educated guess and immunization works best when as many people as possible participate. Jude didn't die because we didn't vaccinate him. He died because there aren't enough people around us doing the same, and there was no protection for him when his shot failed.

6 YEARS AGO I HAD A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT.

It saved my life, but it left me with little to no immune system. Which is why the winter months, the sick months, the flu and cold season scares me every single year.

LAST WINTER I'M LUCKY I DIDN'T END UP IN THE HOSPITAL OR WORSE...

Last winter I spent 4 months sick, huddled away from the world, unable to work or even walk my dog for more then a few metres. I had shingles, and then was diagnosed with H1N1 influenza A/B. I was sick for months. From January until pretty much April I was out for the count and it was horrible. I rely on others to get the flu shot, to be proactive so that people in my similar situation won't get the flu.  

MY LIFE DEPENDS ON YOU, YES YOU, BEING PROACTIVE.

The flu shot is science at it's finest. Vaccines have irradiated polio, almost wiped out measles and many other diseases that people used to die from all the time, which are now almost none existent in our modern world. It's pretty amazing that we were able to do this. But I rely on YOU, yes, YOU to be proactive and get the flu shot. 

THE FLU SHOT IS AVAILABLE AT PHARMACIES NOW

So I know some of you out there who honestly just forget to get your flu shot and that's okay, here's your friendly reminder. So when you're walking home from work one day and you pass the corner pharmacy and you were debating getting one, think of Jude, think of me, think of your pregnant co-worker or that man receiving chemotherapy you ran into at the grocery store and pop on into the store. You can save a life or two or three. Let's bring back herd immunity. #ForJudeForEveryone

THE CLICHE IS TRUE, OUR WEDDING WAS THE BEST DAY EVER September 04 2016

OUR WEDDING REALLY WAS THE BEST DAY EVER.

I know everyone always says that, and I never actually dreamed it to be true! But the cliche is SO true. It was wonderful. It does not get better surrounded by all the people you love to celebrate and marry your favourite person ever. It was just so, so special.

WE GOT MARRIED AT MY CHILDHOOD HOME IN CALEDON, ONTARIO.

We walked out the front doors together hand in hand and down the steps. We didn't do a lot of thing traditionally because we're not a traditional couple and I like to be original (hence the one-of-a-kind jewellery line!) It was one of my favourite memories walking out the front doors with Tristan and headed down the aisle hand in hand seeing all the smiling (and some crying) faces at us.

OUR VENDORS WERE AMAZING, OUT OF THIS WORLD. 

We got so lucky. Our vendors, some of my greatest industry friends made our wedding one of the best days and I cannot even begin to thank each and every single one of them. They went above and beyond everything we could have dreamed of. From the coordinator, Catherine who let us just enjoy our day and be stress free, to our photographer, Alana who captured every moment, every memory, every smile. Our day was perfect. Thank you.

2. THE LIVING ROOM BY LOVE AND RADIO

THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST PODCASTS I EVER LISTENED TO. IT'S ABOUT A WOMAN WHO PEEKS INTO THE LIVES OF HER NEIGHBOURS WHO NEVER CLOSE THEIR CURTAINS, FROM SEX, TO LOVE, TO LOSS. THEY BECOME HER FRIENDS AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HER. IT'S A TOUCHING STORY AND STILL BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES. 

3. PARASITES BY RADIOLAB

AS SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD AN ORGAN TRANSPLANT AND DEALS WITH IMMUNE SYSTEM BALANCES, I FOUND THIS INCREDIBLY INTERESTING TO HEAR. IT'S ABOUT THE HOOK WORM PARASITE SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEMS AND A PARASITE POTENTIALLY CURING "ALLERGIES & ASTHMA" AMONG OTHER IMMUNE DISEASE AILMENTS.

4. BIGGER THEN BACON BY RADIOLAB

I'M FASCINATED WITH SCIENCE AND DOCTORS AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO CREATE BETTER MEDICINE.  TO LEARN FROM SHRIMP IN THE OCEAN WHEN THEY CLAP TO CREATE BUBBLES AND TO BREAK THROUGH THE BRAIN BARRIER FOR CANCER RESEARCH WAS FASCINATING. ALSO SUPER COOL THAT IT WAS DONE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TORONTO

HOW TO KEEP SHIPPING PACKAGES EVEN IN THE POSTAL STRIKE? August 30 2016 1 Comment

A POTENTIAL CANADA POST STRIKE IS BUILDING

and it's bad news for local and small businesses. A lot of us ETSY sellers rely solely on shipping our packages across the country! It saddens me so much that we all rely so heavily on a monopoly company that at a whim they could strike and thousands of small businesses are out for the count!

THERE ARE OTHER SHIPPING OPTIONS

to ship packages in Canada but the problem is they're always a lot more expensive if you use the big freight companies, sometimes up to 15% more expensive. When you're shipping a small package even that 15% increase can really hurt product makers selling smaller items.

INCASE THIS DOES HAPPEN, HERE'S THE BEST SHIPPING ALTERNATIVE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES TO USE

CHIT CHAT EXPRESS 

is a company that is actually more affordable in a lot of cases then Canada post. The down side they only have a couple offices, so it's not as convenient to walking to your local post office. They have offices located in Toronto, Markham, Richmond, Pickering, Mississauga, Halifax. So if you live close to any of those, Chit Chat Express is your go to during this strike and maybe even after the strike since most cases Chit Chat Express is cheaper! 

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HATTITUDE?

IF they do intend to strike we will do everything in our power to get your shipment out, even if we have to drive it to you! Please be patient with us as we only will make weekly runs to Chit Chat express due to the distance.

EVER WISHED UPON A STAR? | MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION August 26 2016

EVER RUBBED A MAGIC LAMP? HOW MANY GENIES HAVE GRANTED YOUR WISH? 

Ever wished for a fairy godmother? Or wished upon a star? For 6,281 kids they have met their fairy godmothers and their wishes have come true thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation. 

WHEN I WAS ASKED TO BE APART OF THE HAVE A HEART INITIATIVE,

which is raising awareness and funds about local charities I was honoured to be apart of it! Since transplant and cystic fibrosis charities usually take up a lot of the spot light in my world, it was nice to give back to another great charity. As someone who grew up with Cystic Fibrosis I know first hand how many of my friends have been granted gifts because of this organization. It's pretty special and I'm happy we could help! 

THE MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION'S GOAL

is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions giving them hope, strength and joy. Every sick kid deserves something to brighten up their day, even if it is as small as an ice cream cone, so let’s collectively blow out this candle and make their wishes come true.

SINCE WE MOVED LAST JANUARY

We've had a lot of DIY projects that have been waiting in the back wings that I've been wanting to get done this summer. Painting and spray painting and wall papering! I finally got around to doing this glass cabinet. I love updating and making this antique cabinet feel more modern. Feels so good to get one thing check off the never ending list!

BACKYARD SUMMER GARDEN PARTY | FLAMINGO THEMED WEDDING PARTY August 04 2016

WE HOSTED A BEAUTIFUL BACKYARD OUTDOOR WEDDING SHOWER

We hosted a beautiful backyard outdoor wedding shower for 32 people for dinner last weekend. It was a flamingo themed meets vintage wedding shower celebrating some of my favourite people. It was so much fun to build an inspiration board around our "flamingo summer garden party" theme and get inspired for our fun garden party.

MY COUSIN, IS GETTING MARRIED!

My cousin, Christy is getting married! That's her and Mike above. She's one of my best friends and was my maid of honour 4 weeks ago at my own wedding. I feel so lucky to be standing up with her on her special day come this October. She's been like an older sister to me, since I only have brothers so it was super special to host a shower with my grandmother, my sister in law and my mom for her and Mike this weekend. 

I TOOK SOME PHOTOS OF CHRISTY AND HER FIANCEE AND THE WEDDING SHOWER DETAILS.

Christy and Mike had no photos together. I am by no means a photographer, although I hang out with A LOT of them, so I tried to get all artsy with my DSLR... did it work? haha They're so happy!

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS, YOU HAVE SUCH A HARD JOB.

Man oh man, photographers, I applaud you. You have such a hard job! So many images, you have to catch them just right, you gotta be quick setting up manual, so many things to think about and then of course your hand gets tired, and you have to keep looking at all angles and lines in the frame all the time. GEEZE. They are worth their weight in gold, especially for the great ones.

and mix matched vintage silverware and plates. It was really special using my grandmothers silverware, my mom's silverware and my fance silverware too!

WE HAD CUTE LITTLE DETAILS, LIKE LEMONS AND ORANGES FOR POPS OF COLOUR.

My mom hand picked the flowers from her garden and made the bouquets, we had mix matched chairs, lace table cloths, a candelabra right in the centre, green candles and one of my special favourites picked right from the walk way, grape vines right down the centre. 

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PARTS WAS THE THEMED SUMMER FLAMINGO PARTY.

Flamingo's were EVERYWHERE. Small touches of them, from the cake, to the card, to the games, to the straws.

Here's 5 reasons why I think I'm going to start using INSTAGRAM STORIES instead of SNAPCHAT. Why am I going to end my love affair with snap chat and start using instagram stories? Read below to find out! (especially from a business point of view) 

1. LETS BE REAL, GOING BETWEEN TWO, THREE, FOUR DIFFERENT SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS IS EXHAUSTING

and takes a lot of time out of your day. INSTAGRAM stories allows access to the fun 'snaps' and behind the scenes for instant engagement that we all love without leaving our favourite app instagram. So they're already winning by not making us leave the app. 

2. INSTAGRAM STORIES LETS OUR CUSTOMERS WHO ARN'T AS ENGAGED WITH US START ENGAGING WITH US AGAIN.

It endears you even more to the world by showing them the real you. The STORIES are right at the top of the page, they're hard to miss, they're entertaining, they're quick. They show our customers a fun side to your business instead of always having to curate and have the perfect feed. 

3. INSTAGRAM STORIES ARE SUPER USER FRIENDLY.

I don't know about you guys, but I spent a whole 2 weeks figuring out SNAP CHAT and I would constantly see posts on Facebook about "still don't understand how this SNAPCHAT thing works" from people in my generation. INSTAGRAM STORIES is straight up easy.  

4. YOU CAN SEE WHO IS VIEWING YOUR STORY, EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT FOLLOWING THEM!

Everyone loves those little like numbers going up, lets be real! We love it. On INSTAGRAM STORIES you can actually see who is viewing your STORIES. This is a super cool feature! On SNAPCHAT you can only see who is viewing your stories if you're following them. 

5. YOU CAN ACTUALLY FIND COOL NEW PEOPLE ON INSTAGRAM THROUGH THE STORIES.

You can find cool new people through searches, the home feed, name tags and hashtags. SNAP CHAT is a wicked place to grow your business, but ONLY if you post on other social sites that you are actually ON snap chat. This can be time consuming and super annoying to get new followers. 

SO FAR INSTAGRAM STORIES HAS MY HEART AND IT'S NOT EVEN BEEN 24 HOURS.

BUT COME ON LETS TALK HONESTLY FOR A SECOND...

I only go on snap chat for those filters. So INSTARAM if you really want to kill snap chat, get on the filters band wagon. Deep down we're all a bunch of 6 year olds. I literally laugh out loud every time a friend snaps me a filter.

WHY CUSTOM WORK?

We believe since you only get married once, you should feel magical! Be special, be unique and be one-of-a-kind. We love working with brides to create the perfect jewellery for her wedding day. We'll sit down, chat, and choose from the vintage treasure bins the perfect piece to match your style and wedding dress. Your accessories will be one-of-a-kind just like your wedding!

WHAT'S THE CUSTOM PROCESS?

I usually send you an email with a list of questions about your bridesmaids, their style etc. (if you're designing gifts for them). If its for the bride, we'll have a consultation in the Caledon studio (just outside Toronto), via email or a skype phone call, where we can pick and choose the materials to custom fit your style and taste. You can come back to the studio to pick up your pieces or have them mailed to you. 

DO YOU MAKE GIFTS FOR BRIDESMAIDS? 

YES! It's one of my favourite things to do. I love helping the bride touch on each of her girl's personalities and creating and designing something so special just for her bridesmaids. They mean so much to the bride and I want the bridesmaids to see how much their bride loves them through a custom gift she helped design!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Bring (or email me) photos of your wedding dress, or bridesmaid dresses and we'll create a custom and one-of-a-kind piece just for you and your bridesmaids. What bride doesn't want to be one of a kind on her wedding day? It also makes a really unique gift for your bridesmaid that they'll treasure forever knowing you helped design and create something specially for them. 

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

I usually ask 8 weeks for designing a bridal party and 3 weeks for designing a bride's jewellery. Of course we can always do rush orders. 

WHAT IF I DON'T LIVE NEAR TORONTO?

No problem! We've got you covered. I often email and do google hang out or skype phone calls with our customers who are international. Email is the preferred method by a lot of our clients so we can send photos of the vintage pieces to choose from back and forth. In the age of technology our resources are endless!  

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? 

Cost depends on pieces used and the intricate design you choose, but usually custom work is about the same price as on the website based on which design you like. 

DO I STILL GET THE NICE PACKAGING?

Absolutely! We love our packaging and want you to enjoy it too. We also offer bridesmaid gift packaging for your girls to feel extra special. Our two bridesmaid bridal packaging to chose from say "I couldn't say I DO without you!" and "Thank you for being my bridesmaid"

husband and wife first dance | caledon, wedding | albion hills conservation area July 21 2016

TRISTAN AND I GOT MARRIED ON JULY 9TH AND THE CLICHE IS TRUE!

It was the best day of our lives. and YES i bought my dress to go with my necklace! I'm a jewellery designer and of course it had to be the perfect piece. I wanted to wear a statement necklace and I wanted my accessories to pop! My dress was plain up top with a party at the bottom. Beautiful lace and pearls details along the train. Oh i also had a train can you believe it? Neither could I.

MY DRESS WAS A LOT MORE TRADITIONAL THEN I THOUGHT IT WOULD WEAR.

I also wore my mother's veil which was super special and had me in tears many times throughout the morning getting ready (ugly cry tears) and my friend Blair Nadeau's vine hair piece, she custom made for me. Check out her work here. 

OUR FRIEND NATHAN FERRARO PERFORMED DURING OUR FIRST DANCE AND IT WAS MAGIC. 

I'll never forget our first dance. We actually danced to the whole song and I loved every minute of it. Nathan's voice and the way he song You send me, by Otis Redding was chillingly beautiful. You can watch our first dance below!

of my parents front doors. It was seriously everything I had ever imagined and yet so much more. It was the best day of my life. We then headed over to Albion Hills conservation area where I can't wait to show you the details from our reception! 

A stranger saved my life, from death to love July 05 2016

THIS TIME 6 YEARS AGO MY DOCTORS AND FAMILY DIDN'T THINK I'D LIVE TO SEE THE WEEKEND...

Fast forward in time and now I'm getting married this weekend. From death, to love, what a journey. A journey that would never have happened if it wasn't for my organ donor and their family. 6 years ago on July 5th I got a call that forever changed my life.

I RECEIVED A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT THAT SAVED ME.

It's such a surreal feeling knowing how close death was and how scared and sorrowful we all were this same time 6 years ago, and now how much love and happiness this week represents this year.  

ON SATURDAY TRISTAN AND I ARE GETTING MARRIED.

I am eternally grateful for these extra 6 years. Thank you donor whoever you are. I'm thinking of your family today and the sadness they are enduring on this anniversary. I hope they know how grateful I am to still be here, still breathing, still living. Thank you to the silent heroes of our world. www.beadonor.ca 

peek into the life of a jeweller; it's not as glamorous as you think June 24 2016

EVER WONDERED WHAT THE LIFE OF A JEWELLER OR SMALL BUSINESS OWNER LOOKED LIKE 

here's a little insight into all the hats I wear on a daily basis to keep my brand and business running smoothly. It's not as glamorous that staying at home jobs may appear to be from the outside. I think the biggest challenge is the isolation and perhaps the boredom and loneliness that comes from working on your own. 

IF I DON'T WALK MY DOG FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR TWICE A DAY, EVERY DAY AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

I tend to go a little bonkers. I have a lot of anxiety and pent up energy from working in my studio space all alone, all day. So walking with Melvin gets me out and about and even passing others walking their pups who are also probably worker from home peoples.

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE IN OUR GENERATION WORK FROM HOME THESE DAYS?

It seems this number is on the rise. I wonder if that was part of the 2016 census, tracking people who work from home? 

IT'S BEEN AMAZING WITH THE RISE OF THE INTERNET AND SUPPORT FORUMS

and meet ups (like the Rising Tide Society, a movement for creative entrepreneurs that inspires community over competition; #RISINGTIDEYYZ) but at times it can still be lonely. So walks with my dog, and regular errands, like walking into town with my shipping packages can be key when working from home to help stave off the isolation feelings.  

I AM GEARING UP FOR MY WEDDING WHICH IS IN TWO WEEKS

I'm kind of getting sad that it is so soon and engagement life will be no more! It's been so fun! But also I am excited to get back to working full time in the studio (weddings take up a lot of your time!) and I'm excited to start planning our trip to Scotland! We booked our flights so we head out of here in September for our honey moon! Are you taking any special trips this year?

ITS THE WEEKEND.. SO LETS GET REAL

I still want to look stylish and cute... but without the heels, and all the fuss. It's SATURDAY! Most of my day will be spent walking my dog, running errands, and cleaning up my home, but I'm in the fashion world, and I still love looking cute..but on Saturdays I want to cute and comfy.

A FUN PRINTED SWEATSHIRT

provides a comfy feel and a stylish look. Flamingos and Pineapples are so much fun for summer. They're the perfect print for the front of your sweatshirt. 

STRETCHY PANTS ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS ON THE WEEKENDS (OR ANY DAY YOU WANT TO HAVE 4 CUPCAKES)

Step it up a notch from sweat pants but still be comfy in these stretchy pants, add a floral pattern to set yourself apart from others and up your stylish game. I love the pineapple print with the floral all over print. It's important to note that when we mixed these two prints, we used one big print (the pineapple) and a small more muted print (the floral). Which works together! 

PAIR WITH A WHITE SLIP ON SHOE.

You already have your accents, so keep your shoe neutral to finish off the look. 

A NEUTRAL LONG GOLD NECKLACE WITH A GEOMETRIC SHAPE

 like this one custom crafted by Hattitude which happens to be called PINEAPPLE DELIGHT necklace pairs perfectly with this outfit. Adding an accessory always up your fashion and style game, (my rule is never leave the house without at least ONE of the following on, rings, bracelets, necklace or earrings... all 4 is even better! ha) but adding this neutral necklace keeps the focus on the fun patterns. NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT SOME LIPSTICK ON.

It's saturday so you may not have time for a full face of makeup, but it's so easy to throw on a little lip gloss or a beautiful shade of pink lipstick. Most of the time I skip the mascara and eye liner (my sister in law will probably kill me for writing that) but I almost never leave the house without some lipstick on. 3 TOOLS FOR INSTAGRAM THAT CHANGED MY BUSINESS FOR THE BETTER (secrets of the trade and tools you've probably never heard of) May 05 2016 3 Comments

I'VE BEEN STUDYING INSTAGRAM FOR A COUPLE YEARS NOW 

and trying to grow my followers and expand my business through this social media platform. I went from 500 followers last summer to over 3500 followers 16 months later. I seriously love instagram and truly believe in the power of it for growing your brand and gaining new customers and the right type of followers. The engaging followers who love you and your brand for you and your products! 

THESE 3 TOOLS THAT CHANGED THE WAY I VIEW MY INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

without them I don't think I could have grown my instagram following so much or increased my brand awareness so well. 

1. AFTER LIGHT 

this editing program allowed me to make consistent edits to all my photos to create a beautiful feed. It eventually has become muscle memory and I don't have to think about it to much, which saves me time when I'm trying to run so many other aspects of my business. 

2. PLANOLY (FORMERLY PLANOGR.AM)

this has changed my life! Out of all the apps. this is the one I pay a monthly fee for and I truly, truly believe in this one! I use it to organize my entire feed and store photos so I can keep on the ball! (p.s. if you do sign, I'd be so grateful if you use my referral link --->  https://www.planoly.com/referral/r3v802ikpt ) It also schedules posts (sends a notification to your phone so you can just post it) instagram does not allow automatic scheduling like facebook does. There is also a FREE version now, it just doesn't include as many photo uploads. 

3. ICONOSQUARE

I don't actually pay for this one, I just signed up for the free 7 day trial, took a screen shot of best times to post and went to town from there. It was great to know when my followers were engaged and interacting, compared to when they weren't. Iconosquare was nice because it actually told me when MY followers were online, instead of just the average followers for the industries that you can access with a quick google.

3 STYLISH OUTFITS TO WEAR THIS MOTHER'S DAY (and restaurants around Toronto to wear them too!) April 28 2016

IT'S MOTHER'S DAY NEXT WEEKEND, SO I WANTED TO GIVE YOU SOME IDEAS 

on where to take your mama for brunch around Toronto and the GTA while look stylish and drinking mimosas! It's time to celebrate our mama's. 

1. FIRST PLACE I THINK YOU COULD TAKE YOUR MOM (AND DAD!) IS A CUTE LITTLE PLACE IN CALEDON, ONTARIO. 

It's called the Millcroft Inn and it's nestled in the rolling hills of caledon over looking the credit river. Their waterfall room actually over looks a waterfall and guys... it's SO pretty. They have THE best high tea display as well. It's really reasonable AND the spread of yumminess is awesome. I think it would be such a great idea to take your mom for tea. Make sure you call ahead and reserve though, because let's get real... it's Mother's day and EVERYBODY and their sisters and want to take their mama out for Tea on Mother's day. I think this floral skirt paired with a neon pop of colour for spring at the Millcroft would be great. 

2. NEXT UP IS THE BEST BABA GANOUSH YOU WILL EVER TASTE. 

If you're mama is a fan of lebanese food, hummus and other ethnic flavours she'll love Tabule! She'll swoon over their turquoise tiles at the bar and their water pouring skills (it's hand blown glass pitchers that they pour from a few feet away into your water glass! Mind Blowing!) Tabule is located in Riverside, right by Leslieville on the East end of the city on Queen st. east. I think this laid back kimono outfit would be great. 

3. LASTLY IS FOR THE MAMA WHO LOVES SOME GOOD FRENCH COOKING. 

My mother in law is one of the best french cooks around so if your mama is like her, she'll love Collette Grand Cafe Toronto. It's located at Wellington & Bathurst downtown Toronto. why turning on post notifications isn't the best idea... March 28 2016 1 Comment

INSTEAD DO THESE HELPFUL TIPS AND TRICKS LISTED BELOW

for a more organic and WAY less annoying experience. It's been popping up ALL day on people's news feeds to "turn on your notifications." I don't know about you, but it's already having me turned off of Instagram today. It's annoying and cluttering and it's simply NOT true. Algorithm's (similar to way the facebook feed is set up) work based on what you are liking (the heart that pops up when you double click someone's photo) so those people's photos will continue to show up in your feed all you have to do is double tap.

THE NEW INSTAGRAM ALGORITHM WORKS BASED ON WHO'S PHOTOS YOU LIKE 

and who you're commenting on, who you genuinely are interested enough to communicate with and interact with. Turning on post notifications doesn't do anyone any good. In fact it just bombards your phone with a million notifications and will eventually probably make you unfollow people. Lose, lose for everyone. I also think Instagram is more likely to show you what you're ACTUALLY liking and commenting on in your feed, more then what your POST NOTIFICATIONS are turned on to. Making "post notifications" a useless function and a waste of your time.  

INSTAGRAM'S NEW ALGORITHM IS SUPPOSE TO HELP YOU

I actually think by posting those notifications photos, it will hurt your algorithm in the long run. That photo you post asking people to turn notifications on, is not going to get very many likes or comments, which tells instagram your content is not interesting nor popular with your audience, which translates to not being shown in your followers feed. You'll be pushed down the algorithm pipe line.

There's really NO need to turn on the post notifications, instead do these four things:

1. if you like a photo, show it some love, double tap. 

2. If you really like something someone's putting out, comment on it. Let's bring back the community to Instagram, it's still a great platform!

3. Don't turn on those pesky notifications, if you are genuinely showing people some love, they will still pop up in your Instagram feed. 

4. DON'T PANIC. Social media changes, lets learn to roll with the punches and pull up our boot straps. 

PLEASE DON'T TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS FOR ME.

I'M PRETTY SURE IN ANOTHER LIFE I WAS BORN A SOUTHERN BELLE.

Something about the south just makes my soul sing. Last week I had the privilege of visiting Charleston. It was one of the best weeks of my life. I was surrounded by some of the most creative, amazing, soul inspiring people I have ever met. They came from all across the united states for the Leaders Retreat for the Rising Tide Society (if you don't know what the Rising Tide Society is, click here, because seriously if you're a small business owner, or creative entrepreneur, this is the spot for you. YOU need to be in the know)

I DON'T KNOW HOW I GOT SO LUCKY

but I was blessed with 4 incredible room mates while on this retreat. It's so funny how all of us were SO different, but even on the last night we were up till 1:30am on one of our beds chatting business, fixing our instagram profiles, and enjoying each other's company. It was so lucky that we all got along so amazingly. We also met some other amazing girls at the retreat! I love how close you become with people when you have similar interests and goals. It also helps when you are spending all day long, every day for three or four days straight. I am so excited to see where our friendships will go and I can't wait to see them next year (or hopefully before!) at the RTS Leaders Retreat again. 

CHARLESTON IS A HIDDEN GEM.

Why no one thought to tell me that it was a MUST visit, I do not know, but now I am telling you, YOU MUST VISIT. It's one of the most charming and amazing places I have ever been to. The history, the architecture, the people, the food. Everything is wonderful. SERIOUSLY. WONDERFUL. 

CHARLESTON YOU STOLE MY HEART. I WILL BE BACK. 

I'm already plotting how I can get my fiance and I down there for April. It's such a shame our Canadian dollar is doing so poorly or I would be down there in a heart beat. One single heart beat. No but seriously... I really think I must have been a southern belle in another life.

What social media platform rules the world? March 10 2016

SO EXCITED THAT OUR FIRST 3 INSTAGRAM WORKSHOPS WERE SO MUCH FUN. 

I seriously get goosebumps thinking about how amazing all the people have been that have come to the workshops. I really love helping them grow their brand and business on Instagram and I always learn from them too! I have a huge passion for this stuff and I think it's my favourite workshop that I host. 

The amazingly charming Rebecca or Wee Three Sparrows Photography captured the day and I love her for it! Thank you so much Rebecca. So so so sweet of you! 

I ALWAYS START OFF THE WORKSHOP BY TELLING MY WHOLE PHILOSOPHY, WE'RE SELLING A LIFESTYLE NOT A PRODUCT. 

To many times entrepreneurs get caught up in buy buy buy, sell sell sell. That's not what Instagram is about! It's a fun and quirky way for friends to share their lives through a series of photos. Lifestyle. That's what my workshop is all about! We learn hashtags, growing your audience, nurturing your current followers, branding colours in your feed, we even do some styling of the photos at the end of the workshop. 

My dog Melvin, studio assistant even made an appearance at the workshop! I'm moving the workshop to Toronto first week of April and I'll be sad he won't be there to greet the guests! 

THE DELICIOUS SWEET TREATS WERE PROVIDED BY EMILY OF CRUMB AND BERRY.

Her cake pops and macarons are little bites of heaven. I often order more then I need for the workshop so they'll be sure to be left overs for my fiance and I to eat! 

AFTER THE WORKSHOP ALL THE ATTENDEES ARE INVITED TO JOIN A PRIVATE STUDIO SERIES FACEBOOK GROUP 

where members can post instagram questions and quieries and if I can't help them, someone else in the group can! We post new tips and tricks since we are always learning. Social media is ALWAYS changing. It's a great little online community and I'm happy to keep growing and learning with everyone. After the workshop the learning and helping doesn't end!

Let us help you pair the perfect outfit for a casual but fun dinner date night out for valentines day! Keep warm on this freezing cold (weather warning ALERT weekend) with a beautiful trench coat. Throw on some bold lipstick (we can't state how important lipstick is), a fun pink or red skirt preferably something with tulle. To make the outfit a little more casual pair it with a black and white stripped shirt and some keds or cute flats. Bonus points if they're sparkly. Instagram workshop! How to double your followers and turn them into customers! January 26 2016

Why am I running this Instagram workshop?

I want to offer to all my colleagues, product makers, and creative entrepreneurs a workshop on converting Instagram followers into paying customers and clients. I think in this day and age Instagram is SO important to your brand.  I want to help you double your Instagram following and integrate a beautiful brand to engaged current followers and attract new followers to become customers. What's my background? 

I went to university for business, marketing management so marketing has always been a passion of mine. I run my own jewellery business for over 10 years. I have grown my Instagram followers from 500 to 2,500 in 6 months. 

I want to share everything I have been studying and learning from all the articles and courses I have been taking. I have even started booking custom orders and brides from Instagram. This is a huge milestone! It's the ultimate goal for a lot of us creatives to book through Instagram. I am constantly reading articles and taking courses on how to make Instagram work for you and your brand and convert followers into customers. I want to summarize everything and share the best things that I've found work and what doesn't work. I've done the struggle and research so you don't have to. 

What will the workshop look like?

I'd love to invite you to my studio in Caledon for the workshop. I will have it catered with sweets and treats from Crumb and Berry and we'll drink some lovely tea. We'll need it after all that learning! ha You'll also receive a printed 5 page worksheet of tips and tricks and a summary of everything that I've learned to help you with your own Instagram feed. There will be a 1 on 1 time and mingling with the other creatives for your own personal accounts on how to improve and ideas for your feed as well as actual hands on styling to put everything we've learned into action at the end of the class.

You'll also gain access to a private community on facebook of everyone who has attended the studio series. This community is for people who are helpful and want to always be growing and learning.
