This german video is giving us all sorts of good time feels!

We can't wait to spend time with our family this year, gathered around the Christmas tree, drinking hot chocolate and walking our doggy in the snow!

One of my favourite family traditions is going to the tree farm and cutting down our own Christmas tree. My fiance and I are getting our photos taken at a Christmas tree farm in Rockwood next weekend by the talented Sara Monika. We're super excited to capture some precious memories!

Do you have any family traditions at Christmas time? I'd love to hear them!

Ever ask yourself, what the heck do I wear to this weekend's work christmas party? You're not alone! So we've put together 5 great looks for this seasons parties. Here's our first look. We love this navy dress. Navy is sophisticated and classic, but still more unique then black.

Find something similar in your wardrobe and splurge on a new sparkly accessory, like these Genuine earrings custom crafted by Hattie of Hattitude Jewellery and a great clutch to hold your lipsticks in.

top 5 things to bring to a photo shoot November 11 2015

top 5 things to bring to a photo shoot

1. Always bring snacks - starbursts, and teddy grahams go over particularly well. Ordering pizza is also a fan (and model) favourite

2. music is SO key - it makes dancing fun, puts smiles on peoples faces and fills the silences if your creative team doesn't know each other that well

3. bring a pair of rubber boots - sometimes thing get muddy and you have to go off roading to get the perfect shot, it's usually always worth it!

4. make sure everyone is always laughing - when people are relaxed and being themselves, the photos are effortless and beautiful

5. Dont' stress! - you could end up with hives all over your body and have to go to the hospital later that night...yes.. this did infact happen to me the day of this look book shoot! Thank goodness I have an incredible team who took over while I took to the hospital for some IV benedryl. Thanks guys!

Here's a behind the scenes video of our 2015 look book, Field of Dreams. Thanks to my incredibly talented team for making this day possible.

these ladies designed their own necklaces and so much fun doing it! October 19 2015 3 Comments

I seriously LOVE hosting jewellery workshops. I love meeting all the new women and helping them design their dream necklace. It's so fun and exciting to see what everyone will come up with and how they'll style the different pieces. For those of you nervous about designing your own piece, it's okay if you need some help designing, I'm there to help throughout the whole workshop.

It was such a pleasure having this last bunch of ladies through our doors. They were so much fun to have and really designed some great necklaces catering to each of their personalities! The October workshop was really so lovely. We can't wait to do it all over again (this time with some hot apple cider) for our November workshop

We were lucky enough to have Stacey Boag a talented toronto photographer attending the workshop and she snapped some beautiful photos for us. We hope you enjoyed them.

Here's her website to go see more of her work. http://www.staceyboag.com/

We're hosting another workshop November 22nd! Reserve your spot by clicking here or find more information here

mint bridesmaid dresses, and hot pink Hattitude packaging? We say I DO! October 09 2015

One of our bride's this past summer attended Elementary school with Hattie and we were tickled pink when she got back in contact with us and asked us to custom design her bridesmaids jewellery for her wedding. These were thank you gifts for her maidens as well they doubled for them to wear on the day of Cassie and Mike's wedding.

Cassie was such a delight and made one of the most beautiful brides ever. We even got to be part of her mom and mother in law gift, making them beautiful matching rhinestone, pearl, heart toggle bracelets. Cassie thanks for letting us be a little part of your magical day. Happiest future to you and Mike!

FOR FULL LIST OF VENDOR CREDITS SCROLL TO BOTTOM

Cassie left us the sweetest little note ever about working with us.

Hattitude Jewellery has been a staple for my everyday clothing,  so when it came to choosing wedding jewellery I didn't have a hard choice!    Working with Hattitude Jewellery to create custom jewellery for my bridesmaids was amazing. When I first contacted Hattie I had no idea what I wanted, but after giving her details about the girls, their dress styles and our wedding colours, she was so helpful and provided me with lot's of options and styles to choose from, and made the entire process so easy.   The girls, my mother and mother-in-law, were all given a matching bracelet, and either custom earrings or a custom vintage necklace (which were packaged beautifully, I might add).  Everyone LOVED their new jewellery, and tell me that since the wedding it has become an essential part of their wardrobe.  I remember my aunt pulled me aside during my wedding day and said, "Where did you get those necklaces that the girls are wearing, they are beautiful and I want one!".  Hattitude Jewellery was the perfect gift for the ladies in my life that mean the most to me, and I was so happy with the gorgeous custom jewellery she was able to make for them.  Thank you!!

What's a bohemian, river filled maternity photo shoot look like? September 16 2015 1 Comment

My friends Izabela and Sara Monika, Photographer got together to make a little magic happen for Izabela's maternity shoot. Her little baby girl is due any day now and we all can't wait to meet her. In the mean time here's some beautiful bohemian, indie photos filled with magical headpieces and dream catchers.

We created, designed and handcrafted all the headpieces worn in this photo shoot. What's the real difference between a venue coordinator and a wedding planner? September 15 2015

I started a blog series a few months back after my older brother got engaged and I realized that a lot of the traditions from our grandparents days and our parents wedding days were outdated and no longer suited the modern day couple. You can read the last blog series on "what to bring to an engagement party" here.  A lot of my brides say they're biggest regret about their wedding was not hiring a wedding planner. Almost every single friend, or customer has said that to me after the wedding. I wanted to give you the inside scoop from a friend of mine who's an amazing planner and does the most beautiful work about why a wedding planner should be part of your day and budget. They're worth every penny! Let me introduce you to Danielle, of Shaw Events.

GUEST POST BY DANIELLE SHAW OF SHAW EVENTS

I’m so honoured that Hattie has asked me to guest blog for her! Let me tell you a little about myself! I’m Danielle, and I’m a wedding planner. I run my own business, Shaw Events – and we offer planning, styling and vintage rental services in Niagara, Hamilton and the GTA.  I have been in the event world since 2009 - having had opportunities to learn from leading industry planners that resulted in a role as venue coordinator at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Finally, it was time to go full time with my business – and here I am, planning and executing 15 + weddings per season! I am so grateful for the work I do – and really appreciate the relationships I gain with every client.

PHOTO BY ELIZABETH IN LOVE OF DANIELLE SHAW

Hattie has asked me to explain my role in weddings – and share a few behind the scenes secrets you might not know. Lets start here: you have just gotten engaged. Now what? Many couples start by booking a date and a venue. Once you’ve done that, you ask what’s next? Then the coordinator at your selected venue says ‘don’t worry! We take care of the day!’ Leaving you confused as to what that includes.

PHOTO BY 1486 PHOTOGRAPHY, WEDDING PLANNER SHAW EVENTS

So what is the real difference between a ‘venue coordinator and a wedding planner’? Do you need both? My answer of course- is yes! A venue coordinator works for the venue. It is their role to liaise with the caterer and ensure meals go to the right guests, at the right time. They may even offer to set up your décor, or set out your favours. Great! But who is dealing with the multiple vendors weeks before your wedding? Not the venue coordinator. Who is creating a day of itinerary, handling guest RSVPs and meal choices, or styling that décor you picked up over the last year? Not the venue coordinator.

That’s where a wedding planner shines. They work for you. No matter what capacity you work with them, they will be the one styling your day, organizing the details and saving the day with their trusted emergency kit. (Let me tell you, I’ve sewn my fair share of bridesmaid dresses, removed stains from wedding dresses and handed out boxes of band-aids).

PHOTO BY ALKEMA PHOTOGRAPHY, WEDDING PLANNER SHAW EVENTS

Once you make the decision to hire a wedding planner, you need to consider what type of package you would like. Think about how much of the planning you realistically want, and can do! On average it takes a couple over 250 hours to plan their wedding. Do you have time for this while also working your own full time job? And when it comes to choosing the elements for your day, do you want to select linens in the perfect shade of pink to compliment your florals? If this doesn’t sound like something that thrills you, hiring a full planner may be a smart move!

A full planner will be there with you from start to finish – helping you make decisions throughout the process. They make sure you are choosing trusted vendors and keeping within budget, all while making the process enjoyable for you. And contrary to some beliefs – a planner will not ‘take over’ your day. They will do as much or as little as you want them to!

Another option for couples is partial planning. This is for those who want to customize a package and have help in the areas they find challenging. You might only want help choosing one or two vendors, or want someone to give you direction with a customized timeline.

Lastly, there’s month of coordination. This is for those who want to plan their day completely – but want a planner to step in 6 weeks before to tie up loose ends, coordinate all of the vendors involved, and be on site they day of the wedding - to make it as stress free as possible.

PHOTO BY ELIZABETH IN LOVE, WEDDING PLANNER SHAW EVENTS

Whatever type of bride and groom you might be, having a wedding planner will be one of the smartest decisions of your planning experience!

To recap, here are the top 5 things a wedding planner wants you to know about “wedding planners:
  1. A venue coordinator and wedding planner are very different – and you need both!

  2. Planning packages can be tailored to suit your needs – just ask.

  3. We are not out to ‘take over’ your day. We are there to enhance the experience and give trusted advice.

  4. We put our hearts and souls into every wedding we plan – every wedding, and every couple is important.

  5. There will be a planner out there that’s perfect for you. Look for someone who has a style you enjoy and a personality to match!

Real bride Jani and all her hand crafted jewels August 31 2015

Our real bride, Jani got married in a beautiful old railroad station in St. Thomas, Ontario. She and her hubbie look so sweet, don't they? We love seeing our gals we helped on their special day, so please send us your real wedding photos. CONTACT US

We love Jani's style. The vintage vibe to all the elements on her wedding day was just perfect. For a full list of vendors that made this wedding unbelievable, head to the bottom of the page. I had such a great time designing all of Jani's jewellery as well as her bridesmaids and flower girls. She honestly was one of the sweetest ladies and we're thrilled to be apart of her day.  www.hattitudejewels.com

We created her jewels using vintage 1940's rhinestone earrings and brooches as well as antique pearls. We created her bracelet using her grandmothers bow brooch and vintage rhinestones from the 1930's as well as new glass pearls. Her bridesmaids necklaces were all designed with the personalities in mind as well as their dresses.

I would love to help make your wedding day even more special. I can custom create some jewels for your bridesmaids as a gift for them. It makes such a thoughtful and unique gift. If you would like some gifts for your bridesmaids for their special day you can contact Hattitude jewels here. ---> contact.

I decided on the piece of jewellery I'm going to wear forever... August 20 2015 2 Comments

DISCLAIMER: This post may get sappy, cutesy, gushy, all those good time lovely feelings that people feel when their in love.

The man behind Hattitude Jewellery on our 4 year anniversary asked me to spend forever with him. He's the behind the scenes man of Hattitude jewels and without him there would be no business. He's the brute strength at trade shows, the driver to styled photo shoots, the under paid and over worked, the stress reliever and forever encourager, the part time marketer and the silent employee that keeps Hattitude jewellery running smoothly.

TRISTAN AND I ON THE LAKE HE PROPOSED AT FOR OUR 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

That's just what he does for my business... In our personal lives this is the guy who's the patient one, especially when I'm running around changing my outfit 5 times and my purse another 3 times, even when he's already been standing at the front door for 30 minutes. He's the one that listens attentively to my worries and concerns and with his calm and reassuring voice always gives the most sound advice. Despite any condition or problem thrown his way, he's the one that still manages to stay upbeat. He's one of the most positive people I know. He's got a smile that could melt a room and is always trying to make me laugh. He's the most caring person to our fur baby animals and he's the one that takes photos even when he doesn't want to, because he knows it makes me happy. He's the one that takes care of me if I'm sick and makes me cookies if I've had a bad day. Sometimes I forget that he isn't invincible. He's seems too good to be true. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world that he chose to spend forever with me. Two less fish in the sea.

MY RING TRISTAN HAD DESIGNED TO REPRESENT NATURE FOR HIM AND VINTAGE FOR ME WITH A GREEN SAPPHIRE STONE

On the blog we'll be taking you through my wedding planning process as I plan a grass roots, down to earth, indie wedding for our closest family and friends to celebrate with us. We both feel so lucky and are so happy just soaking in the last couple of weeks.

I've seen so many brides choose their jewellery. First they get the dress, then they match the jewellery...I'm pretty sure I'll make the jewellery and then match the dress to go with it...what do you think? haha

What do you bring to an engagment party?.... and finding your way through the other types of parties this wedding season August 04 2015 3 Comments

We live in a new generation, people are living together before they're married. They start homes together, they buy electronics together, they even buy houses together AND they get fur babies, dogs, cats, hamsters, together! Weddings are expensive, it takes years to have the financial backing to have a wedding especially if you're paying for it yourself, which most couples do these days! I think it's time we redefine the "rules" for this new generation. Here begins the journey as my brother and soon to be sister in law tie the knot! Next time we'll talk about where tie the knot saying came from??? I call this series....

WEDDINGS: FOR A NEW GENERATION - A BLOG SERIES FOR THE MODERN DAY COUPLE

What started me thinking about all of the rules, and etiquette for our generation was my brother got engaged in June!  I also work in the wedding industry so it's a constant on my mind! My older brother who also is my birthday twin, december 23rd, my curly haired fro twin, and my hangry, real angry/grumpy when we're hungry, twin. He's getting married next May!

We're all at that age where most of have multiple weddings, showers, engagement parties, bachelorettes and other to do's to go to for the future Mr. and Mrs.! It can get a little confusing, even for those of us in the wedding industry. Over the next 10 months as my brother embarks on this journey I thought I would start a new blog series on what I think the do's and don'ts are as you swim, laugh, struggle or run through each of the different parties and events this wedding season.

My soon to be sister in law and big bro's fiance, Katherine and I 3 years ago at Caledonstock

This is my families first wedding on my mom's side. It's the first cousin to get married. It's my grandmothers first grandchild to get married, naturally there's been a lot of questions and some people have been asking me 'protocol' since I've worked in the wedding industry for a few years.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO AN ENGAGEMENT PARTY?

My brother is having his engagement party in a couple of weeks and my family members have been coming to me for lots of advice on what they should bring? This is my opinion, although I would LOVE to hear other people's opinions on the topics in the comments! I think an engagement party is for close family and friends, don't invite the WHOLE world, otherwise you might as well call it a wedding! Am I right??? It's a time to celebrate. Two people found each other in this crazy big 6 billion people world and they want to spend their ENTIRE lives together, their entire forever and ever always lives together!

My brother and his gal pal, fiancee!

They want to wake up every single day next to each other. They want to roll over, smile and say I love you, thanks for choosing me. They found someone to love forever and share their life with and even start a family and maybe even create another human being. Or two or three or four! An engagement party celebrates all of the above. It's to celebrate all of these things. There is really no need to bring gifts to this type of party. This type of party is a Party. With a capital P! A good time, and a great celebration! The couple honestly at the end of the day is just so excited you came to celebrate with them. They will love that you brought your smiles and your laughter and maybe even your dancing shoes. They're in love! They want to shout it from the roof tops! or the dock at the cottage in my brothers case!  If you want to show the couple how excited you are that they are tying the knot, below are some uber cute things, most under $20, you can purchase on etsy, or grab at chapters, or the wine store or even make them something yourself! No need to break the bank for this type of party.

GIFT IDEAS

1. http://etsy.me/1KCv823 - monogramed underwear
2.http://etsy.me/1KDIgBc - put a ring on it cup
3. http://etsy.me/1SPRqwl - tote

You can even make something for them like this for the happy couple! Use your imagination! They'll love the thought behind it.

A bottle of wine, champagne or their favourite beer with a nice card goes a long way too!

last minute wedding jewellery ideas! July 20 2015

Are you a bride-to-be who doesn't have her jewels for the big day? It's one of the last things brides purchase leading up to their big day but it's also one of the most important! It's the pièce de résistance, the icing on the cake, the cherry on top of that beautiful dress and amazing veil or headpiece. Here's a few one-of-a-kind piece handcrafted by designer and owner of Hattitude Jewellery, Hattie Dunstan. View more pieces here www.hattitudejewels.com

You can read what the necklace was re-invented with. Learn the history of each piece by reading the excerpt above the photo.

Romantic Ties necklace is made with vintage beads and antique pearls from a widow's jewellery box from a home in high park, Toronto, Canada. Inside the jewellery box was two ticket stubs to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra dated February, 1969.
This antique bow brooch was found at an estate sale in Collingwood, Ontario. It was then converted into a pendant waiting for the perfect person to wear it to a wedding!
This necklace is called Time Again. It's made from vintage rhinestone earrings and screw back pieces dating back to the thirties, fourties and fifties. Over 80 years of history breathed into this new updated re-styled necklace for a wedding.
This is made from vintage pearls from the 1940's and an antique brooch converted into a pendant. This is a great look to get the classic pearl look but still be one-of-a-kind and a little bit different from everyone else wearing the class pearl necklace.
This necklace is made from vintage rhinestone earrings from the 1950's and floral pieces from the 70's. They're also signed by the designer from the 1970's making them extra special and made with love. This re-styled and re-invented necklace is the perfect piece to wear to a wedding you're attending. The caramel coloured new ribbon make the length adjustable for all.
This necklace is re-invented from an antique brooch, vintage necklace and new glass beads and pearls. The antique floral brooch was found at an antique mall in northern ontario.
Lady Emerald is so stunning. She's made from vintage earrings from the 60's and a vintage brooch from the 1950's with rhinestones and crystals. This piece is truly one of a kind. It would look stunning with a green, yellow, pink, purple dress as a guest or it would look stunning on a bride with her bridesmaids wearing emerald green dresses.

Dream world necklace is made from a recycled 1940's vintage rhinestone necklace, a 1980's chain broken bracelet, and re-styled with new glass pearls. This one of a kind piece, glitters and shines and is stunning! It would look fabulous with any wedding dress or on any outfit attending a wedding. It's guaranteed to get compliments and be a conversation piece for the evening with it's one-of-a-kind uniqueness and story of the past's history.

We hope you'll be wearing Hattitude jewels at your next major function! View more online at www.hattitudejewels.com

One of the best nights of the summer...and probably of my life! June 23 2015

Last weekend I had the greatest privilege of working with the most dedicated team. We put on a fashion show fundraiser with an artisan marketplace for Cystic Fibrosis and Organ donation awareness, raising close to $24,000. I can't even begin to describe what an amazing and wonderful and love filled night it was. Starting with dedicating our show to one of our former committee members who is fighting for a second chance at life with a SECOND double lung transplant, Lindsay, to the phenonmenal doctors from St. Michaels hospital speaking on behalf of the CF community, to the fashion houses rockin' their latest looks, to the bridal dresses, to the song and rapping of our emcees as the finale. This evening was one for the books and we are over the moon the event went off so smoothly.

I can't thank everyone involved, especially every single one of our volunteers and committee members. We could not have done the show with out you! A huge thank you to our amazing hostess Jim & Cathy for opening their home and property to us. You are amazing and thanks for putting up with us for the last 9 months.

We're super excited to have made this custom bracelet for a bride-to-be June 16 2015

We had the opportunity through Etsy to make a special bride-to-be's bracelet for her wedding day. She had purchased a Hattitude necklace and we custom crafted a bracelet to match the necklace.

This bracelet is made from antique 1930's crystal beads with new glass pearl beads. You can view more one-of-a-kind pieces here www.hattitudejewels.com

Are you interested in having us custom design you a piece of jewellery for your wedding? We would love to work with you!

We do everything from mother of the brides or groom to bridesmaids. I am currently in the process of designing for a bride and her 6 bridesmaid. She gave me a budget and we worked around that to give each of her bridesmaids a beautiful handcrafted gift on her wedding day. We made the pieces so that they were able to wear them after the wedding but still have a little bit of sparkle in them to dress them up for the wedding.

We're so happy to work, create and design with you so that you can give your bridesmaids a personal one-of-a-kind gift!

Please feel free to contact us so we can make your even more beautiful. Click here.

I'm celebrating my 5 year lungiversary this year... June 05 2015

I tell you a little bit about my story..where I was 5 years ago and where I am today. Running a bridal fashion jewellery company and founder and co-director of a huge charity fashion show in the rolling hills of Caledon.

100 years of fashion in 2 minutes June 04 2015 2 Comments

I absolutely love seeing videos featuring the different eras and how fashion changes from generation to generation. I'm a fashionista. I love playing dress up. I love styling and I love designing.

I can't decide which era has my heart. I think every year it changes. During university I couldn't' get enough of the roaring twenties. A couple of years ago I was highly influenced by the 1940's. Right now I'm really connecting with the 70's era. I am totally into the bell bottoms and one piece outfits and wearing scarves in your hair. I've got a lot of hair so I'm totally digging having a big head of curly hair wrapped in a cool pattern scarf. I'm also really into fringe anything.

My new Fall/Winter 2015 collection is inspired by bohemian wild child from the 1970's. I can't wait to show you the look book we're shooting in July for it. Have you seen my other look books. Click here to see last year. Don't forget to watch this fun video of 100 years of fashion. Isn't the 2005 era so funny! Maybe because I was a teenager then, but I just cringe at that fashion!

Tell me in the comments which is your favourite era? How does one decide?

How to rock a head piece at your wedding? Do you want to wear one at your wedding? May 22 2015 8 Comments

We're so excited to FINALLY see jewelled headpieces have caught on in the fashion world and especially the bridal world! We started designing jewelled bridal head pieces last summer when we saw there was a gap in the market. These bohemian lover pieces are not only in vogue with the hippie bride but all sorts are opting for this neat and different look for their wedding day!

Last year it seemed no one was designing jewelled head pieces...and I couldn't figure out WHY!? They are so freakin' COOL. We've sold our jeweled head pieces as far as Germany. We are so excited to expand our line this summer to headpieces for the casual gal. Check out some of our head pieces below for your wedding day or see them online here >>> http://bit.ly/1PAIi2s

want an inexpensive cornfield farm bohemian wedding? May 20 2015

Looking to get married on your family farm? In front of a cornfield? Want to do it in expensively? Check out this south western bohemian inspired wedding photo shoot Hattie and a few vendors came up with last summer. The team ended the evening roasting marshmallows and telling tales around the bonfire used in this photo shoot. I know posted this photo shoot a few months ago but now that bonfire season and summer nights are here again I couldn't resist blogging it again!

We were lucky enough to have it published on 100 layered cake as an editorial. Check out the whole editorial on their wedding blog by clicking the button below.

We were so tickled pink to be involved. Jan is the biggest sweet heart from WillowRose events. We looooove how Marla rocked our head piece and every day collection of cool boho jewellery pieces. This two piece wedding dress from Maureen Patricia bridal is such a swoon fest. Thanks for the great memories last summer. What a team! Can't wait to do it again this year.

Looking for the best night of the Summer? While doing something awesome? May 11 2015

Looking for the best night of the Summer? While donating to Charity? Drinking Steam Whistle? Eating cupcakes, enjoying a BBQ and watching a fashion show? I'm proud to be the co-director and a sponsor for this year's Couture Fashion for a Cure Found fashion show fundraiser.

This fashion show is near and dear to my heart for a few reasons. It was started 5 years ago by some of my closest girlfriends and I. When I became to ill to finish the fashion show, they took up the reigns in my absence. My health was failing due to end stage lung disease because of cystic fibrosis and I was listed and then received a double lung transplant that saved my life. Learn what CF is by clicking here.

We wanted to raise $3,000 in our first year at the fashion show and we ended up exceeding all of our expectations and raised over $30,000. To date we are going into our 4th fashion show and we have raised over $120,000. This year the fashion show is taking place in a barn venue, think rustic, beautiful hills, twinkle lights, vintage furniture and BLOOMS! I'm proud to be a sponsor and runway designer for this years show.
